Focus keyword: Canada study permit funds Bangladesh 2026
Official information checked: 9 September 2026. Immigration rules and amounts can change; always recheck Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) before submitting.
For a Bangladeshi student applying for a Canadian study permit on or after 1 September 2026, the minimum living-expense amount for one applicant outside Quebec is CAD 23,448. This is only one part of the financial picture. You must also show enough money for your first-year tuition and transportation, and explain how the rest of the programme will be funded if it lasts longer than one year.
Quick answer: how much should one student show?
A practical minimum calculation is:
First-year tuition + CAD 23,448 living expenses + realistic travel costs = first-year funding target.
For example, if the first-year tuition on your letter of acceptance is CAD 21,000 and you reasonably budget CAD 2,000 for travel, the starting target is CAD 46,448. This example is not a guarantee of approval. Your actual tuition, family size, location and case history matter.
IRCC living-expense amounts from 1 September 2026
For study-permit applications submitted on or after 1 September 2026, outside Quebec, IRCC lists the following annual living-expense amounts. These exclude tuition and transportation.
| People supported in Canada | Annual amount (CAD) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 23,448 |
| 2 | 29,192 |
| 3 | 35,888 |
| 4 | 43,572 |
| 5 | 49,419 |
| 6 | 55,736 |
| 7 | 62,054 |
| Each additional person | 6,318 |
Quebec uses a separate financial-capacity framework. If your destination is Quebec, follow the provincial and federal instructions for your exact application route rather than using the table above by itself.
What counts as proof of financial support?
IRCC gives examples rather than a single compulsory format for every applicant. Depending on your situation, relevant evidence may include:
- Canadian or foreign bank statements covering the past six months, including the month in which you apply and the previous month;
- a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution;
- evidence of an education loan from a bank;
- proof that tuition or housing has already been paid;
- a letter from the person or institution giving you money, supported by evidence that the funds are genuinely available;
- bank drafts, scholarship letters or Canadian-funded programme evidence where applicable;
- clear records explaining income, transfers, pension income or rental-property income.
Read the current IRCC proof-of-financial-support page before finalising your file.
A stronger evidence plan for Bangladeshi families
1. Build a traceable six-month story
A large closing balance alone does not explain where the money came from. Prepare statements that show the normal pattern of salary, business revenue, savings or investment maturity. If a substantial recent deposit appears, document its source with matching sale deeds, fixed-deposit encashment papers, remittance records, salary documents or other legitimate evidence.
2. Connect the sponsor to the student
If parents or another relative will pay, make the relationship and commitment easy to understand. A sponsorship declaration should match the sponsor’s identity, income, bank evidence and the amounts used in your budget. Keep names, dates, addresses and figures consistent across translations and supporting records.
3. Separate available money from future income
Funds already available are different from an expectation that a student will earn after arrival. Part-time work may help with experience and some daily costs, but it should not be treated as the core financial plan. Build the case so that study remains affordable even if work is unavailable.
4. Explain the full programme
IRCC asks applicants in programmes longer than one year to explain how they intend to pay for the entire duration. A useful plan can identify first-year liquid funds, expected continuing family income, scholarship renewals and savings for later years. Avoid vague statements such as โfamily will manage.โ
Documents beyond finance
Financial evidence does not replace the rest of the study-permit file. Students commonly need a valid letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution, identity documents and other items listed for their situation. Most post-secondary applicants also need a provincial or territorial attestation letter (PAL/TAL), unless an official exception applies. The institution normally explains how eligible students receive it.
Check the official study-permit document guidance, the PAL/TAL page and the current IMM 5483 checklist.
First-year budget worksheet
- Tuition: use the amount on the official offer or fee schedule and note any deposit already paid.
- Living-expense minimum: use the IRCC amount that applies on the date of application and your family size.
- Travel: estimate flights and initial local transport realistically.
- Arrival buffer: plan for housing deposits, winter clothing, phone setup, books and unexpected costs.
- Exchange-rate buffer: allow for movement between BDT and CAD before payment.
A family spreadsheet should show each cost, who will pay it, where the money is held and which document proves it. This makes inconsistencies easier to find before submission.
Common mistakes to avoid
- using an old living-expense figure for an application submitted after the rule change;
- counting tuition inside the living-expense amount;
- showing unexplained last-minute deposits;
- providing sponsor letters without matching income or bank evidence;
- assuming employment in Canada will fund the degree;
- forgetting PAL/TAL requirements or following Quebec rules incorrectly;
- submitting translations that do not match the original records.

Frequently asked questions
Is CAD 23,448 the total money needed?
No. For one applicant outside Quebec, it is the annual living-expense requirement for applications on or after 1 September 2026. Add first-year tuition and transportation.
Can my parents sponsor me?
They can provide financial support, but the file should establish the relationship, commitment, available funds and lawful source of income with consistent evidence.
Is a GIC compulsory?
IRCC lists a GIC as one possible form of financial evidence. Follow the requirements for your specific stream and circumstances.
Should I depend on part-time work?
No. Treat any permitted work as supplementary, not as the proof that makes your studies affordable.
