Study in United States

Flexible degree structures, broad course choice and a highly individualised admissions process.

The essentials

Education system basics

The US system includes community colleges, four-year colleges and universities, professional schools and research universities. Students often explore subjects before declaring a major, while graduate programmes are specialised. There is no single national application: requirements and deadlines differ by institution.

How the system works

Associate degrees typically take two years and bachelor’s degrees four years. Master’s programmes commonly take one to two years; PhD programmes often combine coursework, qualifying milestones and original research over several years.

Possibilities for international students

  • Flexible undergraduate curricula and major/minor combinations
  • Transfer routes from community colleges to four-year degrees
  • Large research ecosystem with assistantships and funded doctoral routes
  • Merit and need-based aid at selected institutions, with intense competition
Bangladesh applicant roadmap

Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD admission basics

Bachelor’s

Research institutions early—many September-entry deadlines fall between November and January. Typical files include SSC/HSC credentials and certified transcripts, English evidence, essays, recommendations, activities and financial planning. SAT/ACT policies vary by university.

Master’s

Apply to each graduate school with bachelor’s transcripts, statement of purpose, CV, references and English scores. GRE/GMAT, portfolio, prerequisites and professional experience depend on the programme. Assistantship decisions may be separate.

PhD / research

Identify programme and faculty fit, then submit research interests, academic history, writing sample or proposal where requested, CV, references and test evidence. Many US PhD offers combine tuition support with assistantship or fellowship funding, but policies vary.

Important: Every university assesses Bangladeshi qualifications differently. Programme entry, English scores, deposit rules, scholarships and immigration requirements must be checked against the official institution and government pages for the intended intake.
