Focus keyword: Oxford Clarendon Scholarship 2027 Bangladesh
Official information checked: 11 September 2026. Oxford is refreshing its 2027โ28 graduate admissions guidance in mid-September. Course deadlines, fees and scholarship figures can change, so confirm every detail on the relevant Oxford course page before submitting.
The Oxford Clarendon Scholarship is one of the most important fully funded graduate opportunities for Bangladeshi students. Oxford says it offers more than 200 new Clarendon scholarships each year. There is no separate Clarendon application: an eligible Masterโs or DPhil applicant is considered automatically by submitting a complete Oxford graduate application by the relevant December or January funding deadline for the chosen course.
Quick answer: how does a Bangladeshi student apply?
Choose an eligible Oxford Masterโs or DPhil, check its exact 2027โ28 funding deadline, and submit a complete, academically strong course application on time. Clarendon has no nationality, residence or subject restriction. It covers course fees and provides a living-cost grant for the period of fee liability, but selection is exceptionally competitive and an admission application does not guarantee funding.

Important 2027โ28 timing
Oxfordโs current graduate admissions pages say that the majority of courses are expected to open for 2027โ28 applications on Wednesday 16 September 2026. This is not a universal scholarship deadline. Every course publishes its own deadline, and Clarendon consideration depends on meeting that courseโs relevant December or January funding deadline.
Do not wait for a single โClarendon closing dateโ advertisement. Open the course page, find the funding deadline, and work backwards. A complete application normally needs the form, supporting documents and at least two submitted references by the deadline. Oxford warns that applications sent within the final two weeks may leave too little time to identify problems.
What the scholarship covers
Clarendon covers course fees in full for Home and Overseas fee-status students. Full-time scholars also receive an annual living-expense grant. Part-time scholars receive a study-support grant whose amount depends on course intensity. Funding normally continues for the courseโs period of fee liability, subject to the terms of the award.
Oxfordโs applicant page cites at least ยฃ20,780 for full-time scholars in 2025โ26. Treat that only as a historical reference: the 2027โ28 grant has not been stated on the pages checked for this article and should not be estimated as a promise. Budget separately for flights, visa costs, immigration health surcharge, deposits and any costs outside the award.
Eligibility for applicants from Bangladesh
Bangladesh is not excluded. Clarendon is open across nationalities and academic fields for new eligible Masterโs and DPhil applicants. The essential first question is therefore not โCan Bangladesh apply?โ but โDoes my proposed course qualify, and is my profile competitive for Oxford?โ
Each course page states the minimum degree result, subject background, English level and any research or professional requirements. Oxford advises international applicants not to convert their own grades into the UK system. Enter the Bangladeshi qualification accurately; the academic department decides how it compares.
Meeting the published minimum only makes an application eligible for consideration. It does not make an applicant likely to win Clarendon. Successful candidates are typically among the strongest applicants in their academic field.
How Clarendon selection works
There is no scholarship essay labelled โClarendon.โ Academic departments assess the graduate application and nominate the strongest eligible applicants. Selection focuses on evidence already present in the course application, including:
- Academic record: degree results, class position where available, prizes and demanding relevant coursework;
- Future academic potential: the quality of a research proposal, written work or subject-specific evidence;
- Motivation and fit: a precise explanation of why this course, methods, faculty environment and future direction match;
- References: informed academic recommendations that provide evidence rather than generic praise;
- Research aptitude: publications are not always required, but rigorous projects, dissertations or professional research can demonstrate readiness.
Write for the academic admissions decision first. A strong, truthful course application is also the scholarship application.
Documents to prepare from Bangladesh
1. Official transcript
Oxford requires a detailed record of university-level education, courses and grades. If a transcript is not in English, submit the original and a visibly certified English translation from an accepted professional translator, issuing institution or authorised notary. An interim or provisional transcript may be used when the current degree is unfinished, following the course guidance.
2. Statement or research proposal
Most taught courses ask for a statement of purpose; research courses may require a proposal. Follow the exact word limit and prompt. Explain the academic problem you want to address, preparation already completed, and how the Oxford course will advance the work. Avoid copied templates, exaggerated claims and generic prestige language.
3. References
Oxfordโs current guidance asks applicants to register three referees, although an otherwise complete application can be ready for assessment with at least two references submitted by the deadline. Contact referees early, give them the course page and your CV, and confirm that they can write specific evidence-based letters in English.
4. Written work, CV and English evidence
Requirements vary by course. Some courses request written work or a CV. International applicants may not always need an English-test result at the point of application, but any offer can require the published Standard or Higher level before enrolment. Never assume an IELTS, TOEFL or other score accepted by one course applies to all.
Application fee and Bangladesh waiver check
Oxfordโs current pages list a standard fee of ยฃ75 for taught-course applications and ยฃ20 for research-course applications. The current fee-waiver page lists Bangladesh among eligible countries for a low-income-country route, subject to ordinary residence, financial need and meeting the course entry requirements. Because the 2027โ28 application guide is being refreshed, check the live application-fee waiver page after applications open. Do not pay an unofficial person to obtain a waiver code.
A practical eight-week preparation plan
- Week 1: Search Oxfordโs AโZ course list and shortlist only courses that genuinely fit your degree and research interests.
- Week 2: Record the courseโs entry requirements, December/January funding deadline, documents, English level and application fee or waiver route.
- Week 3: Request official transcripts and certified translations; resolve name or grading explanations.
- Week 4: Ask three suitable referees and send each one a clear deadline, CV and course summary.
- Weeks 5โ6: Draft the statement, proposal and written work. Revise for evidence, logic and course fit.
- Week 7: Verify every upload, filename, word limit and reference status.
- Week 8: Submit well before the funding deadline and save the confirmation and application record.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Searching for a separate Clarendon application form;
- Submitting after the courseโs funding deadline and expecting automatic consideration;
- Using the admission deadline when an earlier funding deadline applies;
- Writing a generic statement that could be sent to any university;
- Registering referees too late for two references to arrive;
- Uploading only a translation and omitting the original non-English transcript;
- Quoting an old living grant as the guaranteed 2027 amount;
- Assuming minimum grades guarantee admission or scholarship selection.
