The Oxford Clarendon Scholarship is one of the most important fully funded graduate opportunities for Bangladeshi students. Oxford says it offers more than 200 new Clarendon scholarships each year. There is no separate Clarendon application: an eligible Master’s or DPhil applicant is considered automatically by submitting a complete Oxford graduate application by the relevant December or January funding deadline for the chosen course.

Important 2027–28 timing

Oxford’s current graduate admissions pages say that the majority of courses are expected to open for 2027–28 applications on Wednesday 16 September 2026. This is not a universal scholarship deadline. Every course publishes its own deadline, and Clarendon consideration depends on meeting that course’s relevant December or January funding deadline.

Do not wait for a single “Clarendon closing date” advertisement. Open the course page, find the funding deadline, and work backwards. A complete application normally needs the form, supporting documents and at least two submitted references by the deadline. Oxford warns that applications sent within the final two weeks may leave too little time to identify problems.

What the scholarship covers

Clarendon covers course fees in full for Home and Overseas fee-status students. Full-time scholars also receive an annual living-expense grant. Part-time scholars receive a study-support grant whose amount depends on course intensity. Funding normally continues for the course’s period of fee liability, subject to the terms of the award.

Oxford’s applicant page cites at least £20,780 for full-time scholars in 2025–26. • Research aptitude: publications are not always required, but rigorous projects, dissertations or professional research can demonstrate readiness.

Write for the academic admissions decision first. A strong, truthful course application is also the scholarship application.

Documents to prepare from Bangladesh

1. Official transcript

Oxford requires a detailed record of university-level education, courses and grades. If a transcript is not in English, submit the original and a visibly certified English translation from an accepted professional translator, issuing institution or authorised notary. An interim or provisional transcript may be used when the current degree is unfinished, following the course guidance.

2. Statement or research proposal

Most taught courses ask for a statement of purpose; research courses may require a proposal. Follow the exact word limit and prompt. Explain the academic problem you want to address, preparation already completed, and how the Oxford course will advance the work. Avoid copied templates, exaggerated claims and generic prestige language.

3. References

Oxford’s current guidance asks applicants to register three referees, although an otherwise complete application can be ready for assessment with at least two references submitted by the deadline. Contact referees early, give them the course page and your CV, and confirm that they can write specific evidence-based letters in English.

4. Written work, CV and English evidence

Requirements vary by course. Some courses request written work or a CV. International applicants may not always need an English-test result at the point of application, but any offer can require the published Standard or Higher level before enrolment.
