Focus keyword: IELTS One Skill Retake Bangladesh 2026

Information checked: 16 September 2026. Fees, test-centre availability and university or visa acceptance can change. Verify your booking with an official IELTS provider and confirm acceptance directly with every university, professional body or immigration route before paying.

Quick answer

IELTS One Skill Retake lets an eligible test taker repeat only Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking instead of sitting all four sections again. In Bangladesh, official IELTS listings currently show multiple computer-test centres in Dhaka offering it. To qualify, your original full test must have been an eligible IELTS on computer test at a centre that offers One Skill Retake, and you must complete the retake within 60 days. Only one skill can be retaken once for each original full test.

British Council Bangladesh currently lists a fee of BDT 18,650 for Academic/General Training One Skill Retake and BDT 20,145 for UKVI on computer. IDP Bangladesh currently lists BDT 18,600 and BDT 20,900 respectively. These provider prices differ and can change, so the live booking page controls.

Who is eligible?

You can normally book IELTS One Skill Retake only when all of these are true:

  • you completed a full eligible IELTS on computer test;
  • your original test centre offers One Skill Retake;
  • you have received the original result;
  • you take the retake within 60 days of the original test date;
  • you have not already used the one-retake allowance for that original test;
  • you use the same valid identity document required by the provider.

A paper-based original IELTS test does not create standard One Skill Retake eligibility. Check the exact delivery mode before booking your full examโ€”especially if you are planning around a university deadline.

The central IELTS test-centre finder lists numerous Dhaka venues with the โ€œComputerโ€ and โ€œOne Skill Retakeโ€ labels, including British Council and IDP partner centres. Availability is centre- and date-specific. The provider that delivered your original test matters: for example, IDP advises candidates who tested with IDP to use an eligible IDP centre for the retake.

Do not select a centre only because it is nearby. Confirm that the exact original full-test booking is OSR-eligible, that the retake date falls within 60 days and that results will arrive before your admissions or visa deadline.

How the new result works

After the retake, IELTS issues a new Test Report Form showing the new score for the retaken skill and the original scores for the other three skills. The overall band is recalculated. The original Test Report Form continues to exist, so you can choose to use the original or updated result where the receiving organisation accepts it.

The global IELTS page says One Skill Retake results are normally available in three to five days. Build extra time for score verification or delivery and do not promise a university a result based only on the fastest estimate.

Does every university accept One Skill Retake?

No. IELTS makes the result available, but each receiving organisation decides whether it accepts it and may set programme-specific conditions. A university may accept OSR generally while a regulated course, scholarship or partner pathway applies a different rule. Admission acceptance also does not automatically prove that the result is suitable for a particular visa route.

Before booking, ask the university in writing:

  1. Do you accept IELTS One Skill Retake for this exact course and intake?
  2. Is the updated overall band accepted?
  3. Are there minimum scores for each component?
  4. Do you require Academic, UKVI Academic or another test type?
  5. Can the score arrive after application but before enrolment?

Save the reply with the programmeโ€™s published English-language requirements. You can also compare alternatives in our PTE Academic guide, TOEFL iBT 2026 score guide and Duolingo English Test guide.

What about UKVI?

The official IELTS site says UK Visas and Immigration accepts One Skill Retake for IELTS Academic and General Training tests on computer in selected locations. However, visa and university requirements are separate. Use the correct UKVI-approved test where it is required and confirm that your original centre and chosen OSR location are eligible.

Never treat โ€œUKVI accepts OSRโ€ as proof that every UK university course accepts it. Check the sponsorโ€™s course requirement, any pre-sessional English rule and the current UK government guidance for your route. For broader preparation, use our UK student visa checklist.

Should you retake one skill or the full test?

One Skill Retake may make sense when

  • only one component is below the required minimum;
  • your target organisations confirm acceptance;
  • you can fix a specific weakness within the 60-day window;
  • the result timeline fits your deadline;
  • the cost and centre logistics are practical.

A full retake may be safer when

  • two or more components are below the requirement;
  • your target university or visa route does not accept OSR;
  • your original test was not an eligible computer test;
  • your overall English level needs broad improvement;
  • the 60-day window has passed.

Also compare an Enquiry on Results when you believe a score may not reflect your performance. A remark and a retake solve different problems: a remark asks for re-assessment of the original performance; OSR creates a new performance in one skill.

A smart 14-day preparation plan

Days 1โ€“2: diagnose

Read the band descriptors or scoring guidance for your section. Review your practice history and identify the exact failure pattern: timing, task completion, vocabulary control, coherence, pronunciation, distractor errors or spelling.

Days 3โ€“7: targeted repair

Train the smallest relevant skills. Writing candidates should practise planning, paragraph logic and error correction rather than producing many unchecked essays. Speaking candidates should record timed answers and evaluate fluency, clarity and evidence. Reading and Listening candidates should classify errors instead of merely counting them.

Days 8โ€“11: timed section practice

Complete the section under official timing. After each attempt, spend at least as long reviewing why answers or decisions were wrong. Track whether the same error repeats.

Days 12โ€“13: realistic rehearsal

Use the same screen-based conditions and breaks as the real component. Focus on consistency rather than chasing a single unusually high practice score.

Day 14: light review

Confirm identity documents, centre, arrival time and test-day rules. Sleep normally; last-minute cramming rarely fixes the skill the test is designed to measure.

Score-planning examples

Example 1: A Masterโ€™s course requires overall 6.5 with no component below 6.0. Your scores are L7.0, R6.5, W5.5, S6.5. If the university confirms OSR acceptance, a Writing retake can directly target the missing component.

Example 2: A programme requires overall 7.0 with each component 6.5. Your Reading and Writing are both 6.0. One Skill Retake can change only one component, so it cannot by itself fix both minimums.

Example 3: You meet the university requirement but are unsure whether the visa route needs UKVI IELTS. Do not retake until the university and official visa guidance clarify the test type.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Booking a paper IELTS and expecting One Skill Retake eligibility.
  • Assuming all universities accept the updated Test Report Form.
  • Missing the 60-day completion deadline.
  • Trying to retake two skills from one original test.
  • Using an expired or different identity document.
  • Confusing regular Academic OSR with UKVI requirements.
  • Booking before checking component minimums.
  • Preparing with generic full-test practice instead of repairing the weak skill.

Frequently asked questions

Can I retake Writing and Speaking together?

No. You can retake only one skill once for each original full test.

Will my other three scores change?

No. The updated report carries the original three scores and the new retaken score, then recalculates the overall band.

How long do results take?

The official global IELTS page says normally three to five days, but allow extra time for delivery and institutional processing.

Is OSR automatically accepted for admission and visa?

No. Check the exact university, programme, scholarship, professional regulator and immigration route separately.
